A year older!

Ha! It is so weird. Today I am a year older 46 to be exact. Where does the time go? I feel like I am 28! I have lots of energy and too much that I want to do. I guess that is how it is with life! Not looking for birthday wishes - just meditating on the fact that time flies! Now , Laura, I have been working on my Ladies 3 - and I am going to be done with her today and she will be ready to send off to you either Tomorrow or Friday. I will give you the final notice of send off when it happens. I am working on your piece next Laura - I love it but is a challenge for me because of the dark fabric - thank goodness there are lots of blocks of color. Makes it easier on my poor eyes. Even with the mageyes! Really have been enjoying this stitching round! Enjoy your day everyone. I am going to stop in at Hollywood video and get my free movie!

Happy Birthday!!! Hope it's a good one. Me, eh, not so big on 'em. LOL.
I am new to the world of stitching and have been browsing various blogs to try and gain some knowledge and get some tips / ideas. I originally started with a stamped, then counted “kits”. I’m working on my 2nd chart and have noticed some big differences in floss types and quality.
My Cross Stitch Mentor has told me that I’m ready to graduate from Aida, but I really like Aida. Maybe it’s just beginner’s comfort???
If you would answer my question… What type of fabric or fabrics do you prefer and why? Brands and counts?
I would appreciate any advice, thanks!

Welcome! I personally love linen. I do believe on this site Laura has links to different places where you can purchase it. I like www.abcstitch.com as well.
Check them out. You can also buy linen for x st and dye yourself.
Only difference in stitching on linen is you are stitching over 2 threads not one as in AIDA - also check out youtube for demos. Once you try it you may never go back to aida. I haven't . Start with 28 count and a light color fabric.
Hope this helps

Happy Birthday, Vanessa. You've been a stitchy lady already today!

To Craft-i-leigh - you can also try something called "Hardanger" fabric - 22 count. It's an even-weave like linen, but it has the stiffer feel and larger squares like Aida. That's my primary stitching fabric choice, because it's easier to stitch over-1 on it, and I like the delicate look. Welcome to the world of stitching and blogging!
